The holiday spirit is kicking into high gear in Chatham this weekend with the annual Armoury in Lights.

After being plagued by weather issues last year, organizer Lisa Lester says holding the event inside the Armoury makes things a lot simpler.

“We had to jump through a lot of hoops with the city when we’re using their property, so it just made sense to move in indoors,” Lester explains. “We can create this magical, more controllable environment inside and we don’t have any high risk factors. It’s better for bringing our vision to life and ensuring that everyone can enjoy the show that we’ve put so much time and effort into.”

The festivities include Santa’s workshop, food trucks, face painting, two performances of the immersive theatrical show “Trouble at the North Pole,” and the Merry Magic Christmas tree gallery.

Lester says it’s a true community event with a number of partners to create a magical experience for all ages.

“You come in, you get an official elf kit, you get to make ornaments to take home for gifts. Lens Mills is helping us with the face painting area, the Co. is in charge of the tree decorating area, and Santa’s cocktail lounge will also be open for the older elves.”

Doors open at the Armoury at 4 o’clock today. The event runs through Sunday, December 18.
