In an effort to grow the moviemaking industry in the municipality, Chatham-Kent has opened a new film office in the Civic Centre.
FLiCK (Filming Locally in Chatham-Kent) will offer film production companies a range of services to support projects, such as location scouting, permit assistance, and access to local crews, talent, and equipment.
“We’re beautiful, diverse, and have so much to offer the film industry,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff in a news release. “Our new film office, FLiCK, will support growth in this exciting industry for our community while also showcasing the unique and beautiful locations that Chatham-Kent has to offer.”
The municipality said it has as recognized an opportunity to provide unique and attractive locations for film productions to take place, with increasing demand for film production outside the Greater Toronto Area.
According to the municipality, investing in the film industry will foster job growth in a variety of sectors such as hospitality, transportation, and local businesses.
Some components of the services offered by FLiCK will require approval from municipal council, however, Chatham-Kent has not specified how that will impact the film office going forward.
