With an eye to public safety, the local public school board is asking kids to stay away from school playgrounds.

The Lambton Kent District School Board says playground equipment isn’t sanitized, and members of the public are asked to stay away to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

The board issued the following notice on its social media accounts this morning: In an attempt to curb the spread of the virus and to protect public health, the Lambton Kent District School Board is requesting that members of the public avoid using any of our school playground equipment. This remains in effect during the Ontario Minister of Education ordered COVID-19 school closures. Equipment cannot be properly sanitized at this time.

A number of nearby communities have done the same, fencing off playground equipment in towns like Amherstburg and Lakeshore.

Chatham-Kent officials are still mulling over whether to follow suit here.
