Word that there could be elevated levels of lead in Lambton Kent District School Board drinking water isn’t a surprise to Director of Education John Howitt.
Howitt says they do regular testing and take appropriate measures.
“Flushing is the dominant one, that means letting the water run for a period of time” Howitt explains. “If that isn’t working, if further testing shows that doesn’t result in the desired outcome, it could include installing a lead-reducing filter, replacing the fixture itself, or permanently rendering the fixture unusable for drinking water.”
In the case of Naahii Ridge, which had the highest levels in the board at four times Health Canada’s current threshold, Howitt says the Board has already taken action and posted the information on the LKDSB website.
