Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day and the local board is marking the date.
The Lambton Kent District School Board wants to make sure all its students feel welcomed and valued, and that includes members of its four indigenous communities, Metis and Inuit.
Over the past year the board has added an Indigenous Student trustee to its board, a position that will be filled by Autumn Bressette in September.
Also at the start of each board meeting is a traditional territorial acknowledgement.
As part of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, board officials say teachers and staff have increased professional development related to education, revised social studies and history curriculum.
