Local Advocates Unhappy with Cable Barriers

A collision on the 401 in May 2017.

Members of the Build the Barrier Campaign are unhappy with how the new cable barriers are working out.

Spokesperson Alysson Storey explains.

“They started putting up the barrier this summer, so it’s been a couple of months. Already it’s failed several times, and it’s caught a few vehicles but do we really want something that we don’t know if it’s going to work? Do you want your kids driving home on the 401 t and to and from their jobs or from university with a barrier that is not safety-rated for trucks and we just can’t guarantee that it’s going to work?,” says Storey.

Storey says it’s strange that only the section of the 401 from Tilbury to London doesn’t have concrete barriers, while the rest of the region does.

“It’s saved lives everywhere else it’s been built. If you look at Windsor to Tilbury, which is the most recent construction of the median barrier, there have been zero crossovers and zero fatalities from that type of collision – a perfect example just to the west of us,” says Storey.
