Filmmaker Wes McDonald is updating the public’s perception of the farming industry through his upcoming documentary, Cornucopia.
McDonald is best known for his film Caroline: Trees, People, Politics which was screened at the Kiwanis Theatre in Chatham in 2014.
He says his childhood growing up on a family farm in Thamesville, combined with his artistic background, led to the creation of his production company, Candlebox Productions.
Still in the early stages of development, Cornucopia will demonstrate how agriculture has changed into the modern industry that it is today. The film will also highlight Chatham-Kent’s agricultural diversity – not only the large number of crops that are grown here, but also the techniques and processes used in farming.
McDonald plans to start filming in March – just before planting season.
He says he’ll be hiring part-time camera operators, production assistants, and other positions.
McDonald is looking for farmers who may be interested in being in the documentary. He says if you have a unique operation, or have something you’d like to share, to e-mail him at [email protected]. Cornucopia is also looking for sponsors. If you’re interested in sponsoring the film, please contact Wes McDonald at the e-mail address above.
