An arrest has been made after passersby spotted a man messing with construction equipment in downtown Chatham.
Police were called to King Street West just before 4 o’clock Wednesday afternoon and say a man was seen tampering with some machinery at a construction site.
Witnesses gave police a description of the suspect and pointed officers in the right direction, and the accused was arrested a short distance away.
Investigators say the man cut and removed wires from the equipment, causing significant damage.
The 51-year-old is charged with mischief and was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
