There have been some questions about when the COVID-19 vaccines will arrive in Chatham-Kent.
The province is reportedly struggling with a lack of supply, despite the slow rollout to the vaccination program. Provincial officials say they’ve been pressuring the federal government to get more doses as soon as possible.
Chatham-Kent’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Colby says he is working on it.
“There have been some signals from the province that we’ll be getting vaccines before the end of this month,” Dr. Colby says. “I’m in constant touch with Ministry officials to try and solidify that. The more we can get and the sooner we get it, the happier I’m going to be.”
CKHA CEO Lori Marshall says they are working closely with Public Health to make sure they are ready to go once they get the go ahead.
“Our Public Health Unit and Chatham-Kent Health Alliance are working very collaboratively towards ensuring we are able to respond once we get the go-ahead from government to do so,” Marshall says.
Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP wasn’t available for a direct comment this week, but his office issued a statement saying “every region in Ontario wants the vaccines but there are only so many to go around and we have to rely on the federal government to receive our allotment.”
