The summer heat can be deadly, especially for pets left in a vehicle – a lesson two area residents were reminded of yesterday.
Animal control officers were called to a parking lot on Tweedsmuir Avenue in Chatham yesterday where a cat and three kittens were left alone inside a car where the interior temperature had risen to 37 Celsius.
The animals were eventually removed and taken to a neighbouring apartment to get some cool water.
Meantime Chatham-Kent Police say a dog was found inside a truck parked at the courthouse yesterday as well. The vehicle was unlocked, and officers were able to get the boxer to cool off in a nearby creek.
Both pet owners are now facing charges.
