Over a dozen local pharmacies are now able to supply anti-viral medication to COVID patients in Chatham-Kent.
In all, 16 drug stores across the municipality have been approved to dispense Paxlovid with a prescription. Paxlovid is an antiviral medication that can be taken by mouth at home and must be taken within five days of the start of symptoms.
According to the Ministry of Health, in order to be considered for anti-viral treatment, patients must test positive for COVID-19 either with a PCR test or health-care administered rapid test, and be approved for treatment by a health care provider, including whether or not the patients is at higher risk of developing severe symptoms.
Select pharmacies in Chatham, Blenheim, Ridgetown, Tilbury, Wallaceburg, and Wheatley have access to the drug.
