Chatham-Kent is challenging local residents to show off their holiday spirit by decorating their homes and businesses with as many lights as possible for a chance to win prizes.

The municipality has announced a new community-wide initiative called “Light Up Chatham-Kent”, which will showcase different streets and areas decorated for the holiday season.

“It is a magical time of the year. Holiday lights bring fond memories and help to highlight the amazing spirit of Chatham-Kent,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff in a news release.

Through the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website, residents are encouraged to place location pins on a map and add a photograph of their decorations.

Those who place a pin will be entered into the “12 Days of Christmas” contest. Additionally, those who add a photo with their pin will be entered into the “Best Light Display” contest, which will allow the community to vote for the top three displays.

Winners from both contests will receive a gift card from Canadian Tire.

Submissions will be accepted beginning December 1 and voting for the “Best Light Display” will take place from December 12-18.
