Listen in all this week at 3:40 as Jay & C-P feature Wallaceburg’s Dee Chatel on the XS Local Spotlight!

Denise (Dee) Chatel, originally from Wallaceburg, Ontario…now resides in Sarnia, Ontario, has been singing and performing since she was a child. Inspired by a musically inclined family, Dee followed her family into music.

Along her musical path, she has had the honour of singing along side such notable names as Michelle Wright & Sylvia Tyson, to a sold out show.

Dee has entered numerous singing contests since the age of 13, and has captured first place in Wallaceburg, Sarnia, Chatham and Walkerton. Dee was also a part of the first Canadian Idol, rallying support from her hometown and surrounding area, to enter the competition. Dee placed in the top 300 out of the 9000 hopefuls that day.

Dee Chatel is know for her Janis Joplin raspy blues style and ability to jump between genres and style of music. Dee likes to “get under” the music and feel her way through the songs she performs. It is an art to her, like moulding clay, always striving to create something new.

Dee is well supported by family, friends and fans, in which she is ultimately grateful for – inspiring her to perform her best.

Dee’s son, Nicholas, likes to follow in his mom’s footsteps and enjoys singing as well.

The first band Dee joined was Hopelessly Blue and thus started the joplin ride that has gained attention from locals and internet fans across the globe.

Dee’s very best friend, Jen Bland has posted more than 15 videos on YouTube of Dee’s performances.

Dee can also be found on Facebook and MySpace where videos and original songs are posted.

Dee is always interested in performing for the public where it is a contest, wedding, pig roast or any social gathering. Plain and simple, Dee just loves to sing.

Dee Chatel’s latest competition wins were Homeward Starsearch, in which she strived for years to win, placing 2nd place twice. Most recently was Picadilly’s in Sarnia, where she had to sing a total of 9 songs of different genre, shocking the audience and pulling off Stocker Channing’s  “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee” for her showtunes mystery pick.

Dee is grateful for her fans and looks forward to putting smiles on their faces everytime she performs.
