Local Conservative MPs aren’t big fans of Monday’s federal budget, but that isn’t really a surprise.
The party is upset at the amount of spending that went into the Liberal plan.
“The Liberal government’s expensive and risky deficit which has reached 354.2 billion now, they are starting to compromise the financial security of Canadians,” says Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MP Lianne Rood. “Now our federal net deficit will rise to more than 1 trillion dollars. This is unacceptable. We will have generations paying for this debt for years. This is not a recovery plan, this is the Liberal’s re-election plan”.
Rood believes if the Liberals were serious about getting the country back on track they would have targeted their stimulus towards revenue generating sectors of the economy like agriculture, and oil and gas.
She adds this will only extend the pandemic recession longer than necessary.
Dave Epp, the MP for Chatham-Kent-Leamington agrees.
“Justin Trudeau’s budget is a massive let down for Canadians in Chatham-Kent-Leamington,” Eppsays. “Unemployed Canadians hoping to see a plan to create new jobs, workers who have had their income reduced and hours slashed hoping to see a plan to reopen the economy, and families that can’t afford more taxes are all going to be let down by this budget.”
Epp added, “In my recent March riding survey an overwhelming 79% disagree with Prime Minister Trudeau’s belief that “the budget will balance itself”. 14% were unsure, and only 7% supported Justin Trudeau’s claim.”
