A local woman has been bilked out of $9000, taken in by the so-called “Grandparent Scam.”

Authorities say the woman got a call from someone claiming to be a police officer, saying the intended victim’s grandson needed money for bail.

The woman was told that since it was an ongoing investigation, she wasn’t allowed to discuss the situation with anyone, so she didn’t bother to call any other family members to confirm the story before sending the money.

Chatham-Kent Police are asking everyone to remember that scam artists use intimidation tactics to pressure you into giving information and making snap decisions.
