Localized Flooding Possible Due To Heavy Rain, Strong Winds

With strong winds and heavy rainfall expected throughout the day on Thursday, both of the region’s conservation authorities are warning of possible flooding.

The Lower Thames Conservation Authority said there is a risk of flooding and erosion along the Lake Erie shoreline, specifically along Erie Shore Drive. Current forecasts suggest that waves on the lake could reach 2-3 metres by Thursday evening.

The St. Clair Conservation Authority is also warning of potential flooding along the Lake St. Clair shoreline, with water levels expected to rise into natural floodplain areas, parks, and farm fields.

Environment Canada is currently calling for 15-25 mm of rain throughout the day, along with 65-75 km/h sustained winds with gusts up to 90 km/h.

Local residents are urged to use caution around shoreline areas as conditions can become slippery. Standing water can also present unseen hazards.
