A number of area residents have been granted one of Canada’s highest honours.

Several ceremonies were held in Chatham, Wallaceburg and Strathroy on Friday and Monday, to present nine individuals with the King Charles III Coronation Medal.

Retired Warrant Officer Len Maynard, former Police Chief Gary Conn, former Chatham councillor Doug Sulman, and Royal Canadian Legion member Irene Mable Williams were presented with medals at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 642 on Friday honouring their dedication and service to the community.

Bert Vanderheide, James Blake, Laurie Stanton, Greg Hetherington, and Steven Twynstra were presented their medals on Monday.

Blenheim’s Wes Thompson, who passed away in June 2024, was also recognized for his years of philanthropy and service as an ambassador and community supporter.

Three Windsor and Essex County residents, who were unable to attend Friday’s ceremony, were recognized including Marta Anderson, Clifford Hartwick, and Wendy Parson. They will be given their medals at a later date.

The King Charles III Coronation Medal recognizes individuals for their exceptional contributions and achievements.

“It’s an honour to acknowledge these exceptional individuals who have made significant contributions to our community,” said MPP Trevor Jones. “Their dedication and hard work inspire us all, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to recognize their achievements.”
