It’s not often community members are put behind bars to help raise money.

United Way spokesman Tom Slager says Saturday’s “Lock-Up” event was a lot of fun, and a great success.

“It was the first time we’ve tried something like this at Sons of Kent. We had 5 people who spent about 6 hours with us, and they raised money for a great cause. This group raised just over $3,500 which is all going to the community and will be a great help to people,” explains Slager.

There were various fun ways to help raise money, including donations to buy lunch or a drink for the “inmates” or to even put them in solitary confinement, where they had to listen to the kids’ song Baby Shark on repeat.
