Long-Stay Camping Rules Changing at Provincial Park

The rules for longer stays at some provincial parks are changing.

According to Ontario Parks, the maximum stay length at some locations, including Rondeau Provincial Park and Wheatley, is changing from 23 nights to 14.

Officials say reservations have been rising over the last few years, from 4.3 million in 2014 to 6.6 million campers in the summer of 2021.

“We’ve heard from countless visitors how frustrating it can be to miss out on a summer camping reservation. With reservations in high demand, it can be difficult to get a campsite at some of our park campgrounds,” an Ontario Parks news release reads.

“With this change, we’re giving more people the opportunity to go camping. Reducing the maximum length of stay at some of our parks will help provide more people with the chance to camp and experience Ontario Parks.”

The limited maximum stay length applies to trips between July 1 and the Saturday of the Labour Day long weekend. Outside of these dates, the maximum stay will be 23 nights.

The changes will not apply to backcountry camping or roofed accommodations.
