Chatham-Kent’s two outbreaks in long-term care have officially been declared over by CK Public Health.
The outbreak at Riverview Gardens in Chatham was officially declared over on Saturday, December 19th, with the second outbreak at Wallaceburg’s Fairfield Park deemed over today (Tuesday, Dec 22nd).
The three total cases were the first positive cases in long-term care in the municipality. All three cases were staff members.
The first outbreak was declared at Riverview Gardens in Chatham on December 1st. Two positive cases were connected to the facility. The second outbreak was declared in Wallaceburg on December 17th and only affected one positive case.
The health unit says an outbreak is declared in a long-term care home when it meets Ministry of Health criteria. One positive case is enough to declare an outbreak.
Two additional outbreaks currently remain active in the municipality. A school outbreak at St. Anne’s Catholic School in Blenheim is linked to one positive case. An un-named workplace outbreak also continues.
Tuesday’s report from CK Public Health confirmed nine new cases of the coronavirus and four recoveries, increasing the active case count to 42 in Chatham-Kent.
There are no local residents currently in hospital.
Chatham-Kent has reported a total of 593 cases, 548 recoveries and three deaths.
