There has been a lot of talk lately about the shortage of workers in the senior and long term care workers in Chatham-Kent.

This prompted a session this week involving employees and administrators in the field to come up with ideas to recruit students into the field.

Kristy Jacobs, the Project Manager for the Chatham-Kent Workforce Planning Board says one idea is talk to younger students.

“Getting some of those learning experiences out to the youth like we used to,” Jacobs says. “I think back to the 80’s when I was a kid, we would go to grocery stores, and senior care, and it wasn’t that we were thinking oh this is a career, but it was an exposure to those environments. So when we started at looking at things we would like to do, we could picture ourselves in those areas.”

The group is planning another meeting to discuss the ideas brought up in this first session.
