Long-Time SDH Supporter Wins CKHA Foundation 50/50 Draw

Left to Right: Summer 50/50 winner Sandra Denomey and husband Keith celebrate her big win with Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation Development Officers Marianne Burke and Emily Sellner in front of CKHA’s Wallaceburg site.

A Wallaceburg woman is over 50-thousand dollars richer, although it took some time to track her down.

Last Thursday, the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation drew the winning ticket for its Igniting Healthcare Summer 50/50 draw, announcing Sandra Denomey as the grand prize winner, winning $50,245.

However, CKHA Foundation officials say finding Denomey to share the good news was an adventure of its own. Staff stopped by her home, made calls, and sent her texts before she finally got the message.

Denomey, a long-standing monthly donor to the Foundation and former board member for the Sydenham District Hospital Foundation, says she was absolutely stunned by the news.

She was actually at the hospital the morning of the draw for an appointment, and says winning the 50/50 draw was a full-circle moment and a reminder of just how vital it is to have access to health care close to home.

“This hospital is so important to our community,” Denomey said. “Without it, people would have to travel long distances for services they can get right here at home. That’s why the Wallaceburg Redevelopment Campaign matters so much.”

Sandra and her husband Keith say they plan to use some of the money for themselves, but give much of it back to the community.

Proceeds from the fundraiser support the Our Hospital, Our Future Wallaceburg Redevelopment campaign.

“This was truly a team effort to raise funds for our Wallaceburg Redevelopment Campaign, and we couldn’t imagine a more deserving winner than Sandra,” Christine Mitchell, CKHAF President & CEO said in a news release. “This is the perfect reminder that when you give, you can also receive something life-changing in return.”

Since 2019, CKHAF’s Igniting Healthcare 50/50 Fundraiser has awarded over $1 million in prizes while raising critical funds to strengthen healthcare across Chatham-Kent.
