Construction could start as soon as next month on Wallaceburg’s Lord Selkirk Bridge.

Through the provincial government’s Connecting Links program, Chatham-Kent has received $3-million to go toward the $5.3-million project.

Construction is expected to be complete at the end of August, although boats will still be able to pass underneath in time for WAMBO.

The rehabilitation will include the replacement of various structural steel components, balance bridge counterweights, and the replacement of high speed wireless radio transmitters, among other things.

The bridge is currently under load restrictions and has been closed a few times for maintenance in the last year or two, but hasn’t undergone a major restoration since 2010.
