Staff at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance assessment centre are settling into their new digs at St Clair College.
The testing facility moved to the Healthplex on Monday, and CKHA CEO Lori Marshall says they’re quite pleased with the larger space.
“It’s a beautiful facility, we’ve been able to set it up so there’s great flow, lots of space, which is one of the things we had a problem with at our former site at CKHA,” Marshall says. “this is going to give us the opportunity to make sure that everybody goes in one direction, more ability for social distancing, for waiting especially now that we’re moving into a little bit colder season.”
Marshall says thanks to a change in screening guidelines for students, the number of patients coming into the assessment centre has been reduced, which helps bring down wait times.
“We’re seeing far fewer of them with the sniffles or something like that where they were previously having to get a negative swab before they could go back to school, and so that screening criteria has reduced the numbers that need to come there.”
Marshall says the elimination of walk-in appointments province-wide has also helped ease up the flow of traffic. All testing is now by appointment only, which can be done online at www.assessmentbooking.ca or by calling 519-436-2556.
