Homes along the Lake Erie shoreline could take a pounding again this week.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the region and a gale warning for western Lake Erie.
The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority has now issued a flood watch for the area.
According to a statement issued Monday morning, “the predicted wind speeds and wave heights are similar to, or exceed, those that caused flooding earlier this year along Erie Shore Drive in Chatham-Kent. However, this wind event is expected to last substantially longer than any we have experienced so far this year.”
Residents are advised to avoid the shoreline if possible, and be very careful around standing water, which can present its own unseen hazards.
Children, pets and livestock should be kept away from the water entirely.
The warning is in effect through Thursday.
