It appears not everyone is on board with changes to how mail is addressed for properties in Mitchell’s Bay.
Members of Chatham-Kent Council will vote tonight on a revised request for Canada Post to recognize Mitchell’s Bay as a mailing place name.
At its May 26, 2025 meeting, Council approved a request from the Mitchell’s Bay Area Association to have “Mitchell’s Bay” officially recognized for mailing purposes.
However, following extensive community consultation, several property owners located outside the settlement area boundary contacted CK’s Planning Services Department to say they are not in support of the changes.
The amended proposal revises the area boundary to focus more on the core urban settlement of Mitchell’s Bay.
The requirements for a Canada Post mailing place name requires applicants to have a defined boundary, civic address numbers for all property and buildings within the boundary and street names for each street within the boundary.
If approved by council, Canada Post will review the application and if a change is approved residents and businesses will be given at least 30 days’ notice of the change taking effect.
