Man Arrested After Guns Found In Bed

Charges have now been laid after guns were found hidden in a bed at a Wallaceburg residence.

Back in February, Chatham-Kent Police were called to keep the peace at a Wallaceburg home as the owner searched the residence following the eviction of a man and woman, and turned up two firearms hidden between the mattress and headboard of the bedroom. Both firearms were found without the required safety locks, and upon further inspection, one was identified as a prohibited weapon due to alterations made to it.

Following an investigation, authorities also learned that neither the man nor the woman had a registered gun licence. When they could not be located, warrants were issued for their arrest.

Officers located and arrested a male suspect on Duncan Street in Wallaceburg on Tuesday. The 39-year-old is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized, possession of a prohibited firearm knowing that its possession is unauthorized, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, tampering with a serial number, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, and four counts of possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.

Police are still trying to locate the other suspect in the investigation, a 40-year-old Chatham-Kent woman.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
