A local man has been charged after allegedly trying to rip off a Chatham business.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a man attended a store on Park Avenue East on May 17, picked out an item for purchase, and proceeded to the customer service desk where he claimed he was returning the item.
A loss prevention officer spotted the suspicious transaction on surveillance footage and contacted police just before 5 p.m.
Following an investigation, police attended the suspect’s home on Monday and took him into custody. A 44-year-old Chatham man is now charged with one count of fraud under $5,000. He has since been released from custody with a future court date.
