Police have recovered a stolen wallet and made an arrest following a theft in Wallaceburg.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a man contacted officers after his wallet was stolen from a parked vehicle. The victim told police that his credit card had also been used at a gas station on McNaughton Avenue shortly before 6 a.m. on Saturday.

Officers reviewed surveillance footage from the gas station and identified a suspect, who later returned to allegedly use the credit card again.

When attempting to arrest the man, he allegedly tried to flee but was ultimately taken into custody. The victim’s wallet was also recovered.

As a result, a 36-year-old Chatham-Kent man is now charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, theft of a credit card, unauthorized use of a credit card, and resisting a peace officer. He was later released from custody with a future court date.
