A Chatham man kept police on their toes this week.

Yesterday morning, officers were called to Vertec Contractors on National Road in Chatham where someone stole some copper from the company’s scissor lift, causing about $5000 in damage.

A suspect was identified through video surveillance and a 22-year-old man was arrested and charged with mischief and theft under $5000.

Early this morning, officers were responding to a break-in in at Maple City Mini Storage on Queens Line when an alarm was reported at the Esso Gas Station on Bloomfield Road. Witnesses say the suspect was spotted at a nearby hotel, and K9 Helix was brought in to track the scent.

The accused – the same man from the day before was found hiding in a dumpster. He’s now facing more charges, including two counts of break and enter, possession of stolen property, and breaking curfew.
