Man attacks officer

ppA 34 year old Chatham man is facing charges after attacking a police officer yesterday afternoon. Police were called to apartments on Taylor Ave when an officer witnessed an assault in the parking lot. The officer called to the attacker but he walked away. The officer caught up with the man who turned and tried to grab his gun. He was taken into custody and searched. A dagger was found on the man and he’s now facing several charges including assault, assaulting an officer, and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Sometime over the weekend about 15,000 dollars’ worth of property was stolen from a McNaughton Ave West home in Chatham. Some of the items taken include jewelry and electronics. When suspects forced their way into the home they caused about 700 bucks in damage. Call Crimestoppers with any information.

After some complaints police are reminding people that ATVs are not to be driven on or beside local roads or highways. The only areas ATVs can be ridden are Mitchell’s Bay, Erieau, Shrewsbury, and Bates Subdivision, and the only permissible time is November through the end of March. They can also be driven on private property.

Police continue to search for a man who robbed the Subway on Queen Street in Chatham Saturday. The man entered the store and demanded cash from the clerk around 9:30pm. Police say the suspect made off with about 400 dollars but the cashier wasn’t harmed. The man was caught on the store’s security camera and is described as 6 feet tall, white in his 40s.
