A suspicious person complaint in Wallaceburg turned dangerous for police after a man attempted to grab an officer’s firearm.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers were called to an address on Knight Street just after 9 p.m. on Wednesday regarding a suspicious person who had been entering private properties.

Police located a man in the front yard of an Old Glass Road home and attempted to speak with him. However, the man reached toward an officer and grabbed their firearm.

Officers attempted to take control of the man, who refused commands and resisted being placed in handcuffs. He was eventually taken into custody.

A 33-year-old Chatham man is now charged with disarming a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, and failing to comply with a probation order. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
