A Walpole Island man is facing a slew of charges after being caught riding a stolen ATV in Wallaceburg.
Chatham-Kent Police say the man was recognized by officers while riding on Victoria Street near Bruce Street shortly before 10 o’clock Sunday morning. Authorities say the accused was already prohibited from driving due to previous convictions and the ATV was lacking a license plate.
Police tried to pull over the driver on Kent Line near Brigden Road, but the accused sped into a farmer’s field. The ATV stalled and the man then fled on foot. After a brief chase, the 44-year-old was taken into custody.
A search of the suspect turned up suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl, and investigators learned the ATV had been reported stolen from Dutton last August.
The accused has now been charged with driving while under suspension, operation while prohibited, resist arrest, possession of stolen property, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
The man was held in custody for a bail hearing.
