Making repeated hostile calls to police has resulted in charges for a Chatham man.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said the communication operators received roughly 12 calls to 911 and the non-emergency line from the same man on Monday between 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The man also falsely reported an incident that investigators confirmed had not occurred. He was then cautioned about misusing the 911 service, but the man responded with belligerence.

Not long after, the man resumed calling police eight more times between 8:40 and 11 p.m. During these calls, he yelled, screamed, and used offensive language toward the operators.

As a result, officers arrested a 53-year-old Chatham man at his Lacroix Street home. He is now charged with public mischief and harassing communications, and was held pending a bail hearing.
