Essex County OPP are charging a man with careless driving after his van went into Lake Erie.
Officers were called to a single-vehicle collision on Baldwin Road in Essex around 9:30 last night, where they discovered that a van drove off a cliff and landed in the lake.
Police made their way down the 60-foot cliff, went into the chest-deep water, and provided medical care to the driver and female passenger until fire and EMS arrived.
The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Through investigation, it was found that the driving was impaired. He’s been charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, and his license has been suspended.
