A Chatham man is facing charges after allegedly stealing the keys to his partner’s home to gain access to the residence.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a reported break-and-enter at a residence on Grand Avenue West in Chatham at around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to police, the accused allegedly entered the home unlawfully after stealing the victim’s keys, despite a previously established release order prohibiting him from attending the residence.
The man left before officers arrived but was located and arrested nearby.
The 36-year-old from Chatham is now charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, unlawful entry, and two counts of failing to comply with a release order. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
