Chatham-Kent police have rescued a woman from a distressing situation after she was held against her will for several days.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said a man forcibly confined the victim at a residence in Chatham, where she was repeatedly assaulted. Her laptop was also damaged during the ordeal.
Fortunately, another resident in the home heard the commotion Wednesday evening and called police.
A 34-year-old Chatham man was arrested at the scene and is now charged with three counts of assault, two counts of assault causing bodily harm, forcible confinement and mischief under $5,000.
He has been held in custody and will appear in court for a bail hearing.
