Police have caught up with a suspect wanted in connection to several break-and-enters in Chatham over the last week.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to reports of four break-and-enters at commercial properties on Indian Creed Road on Saturday.
While only a small amount of cash was stolen during the break-ins, the suspect allegedly forced his way in, causing over $10,000 in damages.
Investigators canvassed the area and reviewed surveillance footage to identify a suspect, who was already wanted in connection to another break-and-enter on King Street West in Chatham on September 30. The suspect was also wanted on an outstanding warrant after allegedly stealing a wallet from a vehicle on July 23 and using the stolen credit cards.
Officers located the suspect on King Street East shortly before noon on Sunday and took him into custody. The 55-year-old Chatham man is now charged with six counts of possession of stolen property, five counts of unauthorized use of a credit card, four counts of fraud under $5,000, three counts of break-and-enter while wearing a disguise with intent, and one count each of theft under $5,000 and mischief under $5,000.
Following a bail hearing, the accused was remanded into custody to await his next court appearance on Tuesday.
