Man Faces Weapon And Drug Charges

A Walpole Island man is facing a long list of charges following a weapons investigation.

Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police and Walpole Island First Nation Police executed a search warrant at a River Road address on the First Nation on August 29.

During the search, officers discovered and seized firearms, ammunition, prohibited weapons, a quantity of suspected fentanyl, and other offence-related items.

As a result, a 60-year-old Walpole Island man has been arrested and is now charged with two counts each of assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm, weapon or prohibited device, failing to comply with a release order, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, and possession for the purpose of trafficking. He is additionally charged with uttering threats, using a firearm to commit an offence, break-and-enter to commit an indictable offence, and possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.

The accused was remanded into custody following a bail hearing.
