Chatham-Kent Police are charging a man with mischief after an early morning fire.
Officials say around 2:30 this morning, emergency crews responded to a fire at an apartment building on Timmins Crescent in Chatham.
Smoke was coming out from under an apartment door, but the homeowner wouldn’t let the emergency crew inside. The jaws of life were used to pry the door open, and as officers entered the apartment, the man poured bleach on them. He slapped an officer in the face and grabbed another officer in the groin area.
After refusing to co-operate, the man was apprehended so the fire on the stove could be extinguished.
The 54-year-old Chatham man is being charged with mischief endangering life and two counts of assault.
