Man Thought To Be Missing Charged With Break And Enter On Martin Island

This one took an unexpected turn.
The 40-year-old Tecumseh man who was the subject of a week long search is now facing break and enter charges.
Erik Matthew Somogyvary was found following a five day search after he went missing from the Mitchell’s Bay area in a kayak.
He has now been charged in connection with a break-in on Martin Island on Lake St. Clair.
Chatham-Kent OPP say they responded to a report of a Break and Enter to the Martin Island property last Friday, September 24th – the very same day Somogyvary was reported to be “found safe”.
Police say the suspect was located in a canoe and was arrested by officers without incident.
The Tecumseh man has been charged with break and enter with intent to commit an indictable offence, theft under $5000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and mischief.
The accused was released with a future court date.
