Charges have been laid following a domestic assault in Chatham.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to a dispute at a residence on Third Street in Chatham at around 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Following an investigation, authorities learned that a 38-year-old woman had been assaulted by her partner, who also prevented her from leaving.

As a result, a warrant was issued for the arrest of a 40-year-old Chatham man.

Later that day, at around 2 p.m., the accused turned himself in at police headquarters. He was charged with assault and forcible confinement and was later released with a December court date.
