A Walpole Island man has been returned to Chatham-Kent to answer to assault charges after attempting to cross the border.

The Canadian Border Services Agency stopped the man at around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Blue Water Bridge border crossing.

He was arrested after border officers learned he was wanted by the Chatham-Kent Police Service in connection to an assault investigation and failing to attend court.

The 40-year-old man was taken to Chatham-Kent police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
