A pair from Chatham is facing charges after allegedly defrauding a provincial support program out of thousands of dollars.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers began an investigation on January 5 after receiving information that a man and a woman were defrauding the Ontario Disability Support Program offered by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.

Investigators determined that more than $21,000 was fraudulently obtained between 2021 and 2023.

As a result, officers arrested the two accused on Thursday.

The 30-year-old Chatham woman and the 34-year-old Chatham man are now charged with two counts each of fraud over $5,000. They were both held pending a bail hearing.
