A discussion on how to showcase the uniqueness of Chatham-Kent’s downtowns is coming before council.

Councillor Anthony Ceccacci recently put forward a notice of motion, proposing the use of $150,000 in one-time funding from the Strategic Reserve to establish an ongoing marketing and communications campaign aimed at promoting and supporting local communities.

“There is an opportunity to enhance awareness, investment and visitation to these communities,” said Ceccacci.

“A dedicated marketing and communication campaign would support local businesses, increase activity in downtowns, strengthen tourism, connect communities and contribute to economic growth across Chatham-Kent.”

Ceccacci is asking administration to develop and implement the campaign, including branding, as well as digital and traditional marketing assets, in collaboration with local stakeholders. If approved, staff would report back to council in one year on the campaign’s effectiveness.

The motion will be considered at council’s next meeting on April 27.
