Mary Webb Centre Loan to be Debated

Municipal staff are recommending the Mary Webb Centre be turned down in its request for a five-year, $250,000 loan.

The Highgate performance hall board was looking for the interest free loan so that they could finish renovations and expansion to create a new washroom and accessible entrance.

The request was first brought forward by Chatham-Kent Councillor David Van Damme in February.

Staff are concerned about the facility’s ability to repay, and the potential fallout if that were to happen.

The debate returns to council chambers tonight.
