The 10,000 protective masks sent to Chatham-Kent from Liyang City in China have arrived in C-K.

Dr. David Colby says the masks were a pleasant surprise.

“I’m really happy about their quality,” says C-K’s Medical Officer of Health. We’re really grateful.”

It was initially thought these masks may only be suitable for residents, but the high quality makes them more suitable for our healthcare workers.

“We’re very happy about them. They’re very high quality. They’re surgical masks and they’re quite suitable from protection of droplets,” adds Dr. Colby.

Officials in Liyang City connected with former mayor Randy Hope to send the equipment to Chatham-Kent.

Dr. Colby says the intention has now shifted to get the 10,000 masks to the healthcare sector.
