A matching gift fundraiser in support of end-of-life care in Chatham-Kent has reached its goal in less than a week.
Local couple Willi and Nestor Kirenko recently offered a matching gift commitment to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation up to $100,000 for each dollar donated. The pair were able to surpass the matching-gift milestone in just six days and have doubled the donations for a combined total of $200,000.
Willi, who spent nine years providing end-of-life care at Chatham-Kent Hospice, has since moved into the facility after being diagnosed with cancer. She said her personal experience as a nurse and now as a resident inspired her to offer the matching gift.
All of the funds raised will support free, compassionate end-of-life care for local families at the hospice.
While their matching gift campaign has ended, Willi and Nestor are now encouraging community members to carry the momentum forward by making a donation toward the purchase of three new cuddle beds for hospice residents and their loved ones.
