As local water activists raise alarm bells about the start of constriction of wind turbines for the North Kent Wind 1 project, municipal officials say they’re doing all they can to help protect area wells. nkw1-piling

Mayor Randy Hope says he’s been keeping tabs on the situation.

“There was a concern brought up about leaving something open when they were doing the pile driving, we checked with them and no they’re capped so that rain and other debris can’t get down into the hole,” Hope says. “So we do listen, we do ask questions, but the responsibilities were taken away from the municipality when the Green Energy Act came in and we depend on those who have the expertise, and that would be with the Ministry of Environment.”

Representatives from Water Wells First will be meeting with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change on Wednesday to discuss their concerns.
