Richmond Street in Chatham could soon see a transportation hub and a twin-pad arena.
Mayor Randy Hope says he’s been negotiating with Navistar to buy their vacant property and develop it.
Hope says a transportation hub, including a new VIA Rail station and Greyhound bus depot, is a big part of it.
“We’re looking at a new VIA Rail train station, I hear a lot about it, it’s not accessible,” Hope says. “I’ve had general conversations with VIA, you know you’re just moving down the track a bit, what better place (with an) arena, a new casino going to be in the area.”
Hope says his plan is dependent upon negotiations with Navistar, and forming partnerships with the federal and provincial governments.
